I’ve seen a thread somewhere around here that has some listed games that lets you crank vehicles. OMSI Bus 2 lets you make the weather -25 and try and cold start an old Bus until the battery drains. That’s probably my favourite but always looking for more. Even just clicking a mouse it’s very arousing if I’m in control of each attempt.

Re:Video Games and other interactive media where YOU crank/stalll

I have used OMSI 2 for a few years now and recorded videos of the bus not starting, stalling, and cranking in various situations. That is a very good platform with which to manufacture failed or difficult cold starts, intersection stalls, etc.

Most of the "cities" incorporated by OMSI 2, you can decided just how difficult the bus will be to cold start. If you dial the temperature down to below minus 20 degrees Celsius, you'll either have a no start if the battery is weak, or cranking with a no start or difficult start depending on the individual bus. Some busses actually won't start if you've started cranking at a low temperature then start dialing up to even warm temperatures. If you shut the engine off at an intersection with the temperature is really low and the engine hasn't warmed up, it can also be difficult to start. Generally the busses won't start at all because the battery won't turn the engine if the temperature is below minus 35 degrees Celsius. And usually there is little to no problem starting them with the temperature above about minus 12 degrees.

One unique variation is the Chicago city bus game within OMSI 2. In that game, the bus will usually start at any temperature (though the cranking will be longer with cold starts at very cold temperatures). But the bus will spontaneously stall at bus stops or intersections without notice. I believe when the weather is colder this will happen more often, but generally I've had this happen between one and five times per trip. It will generally start right back up.

Other games I've seen used to simulate cranking/stalling is Grand Theft Auto 4 (GTA4). I've enjoyed those videos on YT, but find them somewhat unrealistic, as flames or smoke are coming out of the grill as she tries to start her car.

Check out  my channel Billybones on YT where I have put together many bus stalling and cranking vids.

"Vigilante 8" an old Playstation game I was into at the time, besides "Twisted Metal" and the "Driv3r" games for PS2. "Vigilante 8" had many vehicles you could chose from like a School Bus,Police Car,Dump Truck, etc and as your vehicle would become more wrecked up wore out,and shot up when driving sometimes the vehicle would stall out, leaving you in the middle of the battlefield in harms way. If you then pressed X the accelerator button the vehicle would not move but would make a cranking sound trying to start, you had to keep pressing it in hopes of it starting for about 10 to 15 seconds sometimes it would start, sometimes no luck and your vehicle would seize up or blow up from all the destruction and your enemies in the other vehicles shooting at you and bombs going off great game indeed!

Another I remember is an old Driving Simulator game from the late 80's that was in most of the "Tilt" Arcades in the malls that was like 3D plain and simple driving with a few loops, and ramps and was played from inside view of the car showing the dash, steering wheel, gages etc. It was called "Hard Drivin" followed by "Race Drivin" in 92  It was like a regular DMV Driving Test simulator and when it was in the arcade and you would pop your tokens in it, it had a fake metal key in the ignition and you would turn it to start the car and the game.the car would start right up and your time limit would began for the driving session and you had to make it in time to each checkpoint and try to make it to the end of the course without any collisions, crashes or damage to your car. If you chose manual trans you would use the gear shift 1-4 N, R ,so at the beginning of the game if you didn't press the clutch in the car would not start and you could crank it and it would just make a low grinding sound until you pushed the clutch in then it would start. This driving simulator arcade game was made available for Nintendo, and Sega Genesis a few years later as I remember renting it at Blockbuster Video but was way different as you could not start the car to begin the game,it would start automatically and you just drove against the time which was no fun and the car sound of the engine when driving was very cheesy and annoying! The good old graphics and days of simple but fun games!

Besides NBA,Fighting,GTA's,my choice of games were mainly driving, racing ones which I always dominated! I can't remember any other games that have the feature to crank the car or stall it out yourself.Gran Turismo,Need For Speeds,Nascar,Indy Car,NHRA,or even Driv3r does not feature this as the car is already started or auto starts itself . I do know on the GTA Games if you do the custom cheats and codes you can put custom cars in of your choice like 70's 80's muscle cars or imports and make them crank and stall the real geeks know how to do this! There are vids on Youtube showing this for the GTA's! The Play through and demonstrations.
