Our family made a trip to Vail with my Dad’s work and the entire office had a big house rented right next to the mountain. The following morning my Dad left early to ski with his buddies and that left my Mom to take my brother and me to ski for the day. Obviously it’s very cold in the middle of the winter and my Mom did not want to deal with parking on the mountain so one of the young office secretaries offered to drop us off. Her name was Maria, a cute Latina girl who was probably a recent college grad. We had a 92 or 93 suburban which was probably my only a year old at the time. We all piled in, I was in the front and my mom and brother were in the back seat. It was freezing and the suburban had been sitting all night. I don’t ever recall it having trouble starting until after this occurrence, in which it seemed to struggle all the time in cold and hot weather but started great when it was like 60 degrees. Anyway, we were all settled in and Maria turned the key for about 4 seconds and it didn’t start.  There was a long pause and she tried it again. This time she cranked it for about 10 seconds, it gave no signs of wanting to start. My mom seemed a little confused and said it’s pretty cold try giving it some gas.  She turned the key again and started gently pumping the pedal, about 5 seconds in it acted like it wanted to start. Maria kept at it for close to 15 seconds total and the engine kinda caught and died. Maria encouragingly said, “almost got it!”.  My mom said something but I really can’t remember what.  Maria gave it a few pumps and twisted the key again. The engine was whining really trying to start, Maria seemed to gently depress the pedal for short periods, let up, and then repeat the process. The engine was still cranking away almost giving in. Come on, almost, come on Maria kept saying. 15 to 20 seconds later the engine sputtered to life and she feathered the pedal like a pro to keep it going. Finally it was running and my mom told her let it run for a few minutes before we took off. We made it to the resort without any issues.
Later in life anytime the suburban sat for arounds 2 hours in the summer heat it was a guarantee it would take 1-3 long cranks to fire up.

Love it!!! What kinda shoes was she wearing? How many other cranking scenarios were you in with her?

I do not remember the shoes but most likely boots since it was in the mountains. I never had another scenario with Maria but the suburban produced a lot of hard starts.
