I met a man the other day. He seemed like an ordinary late 50's man. We talked about the war, how it is a war driven more by politics. He shocked me when he told me he was on his way to weekend drill........National Guard drill...I asked his age, he said 58. He went on to tell me he was a Vietnam vet, Gulf war vet, and a Iraqi freedom vet. This man of 58 a Staff Sargent, was a vet of 3 wars....Some men have complained about just going to drill.....He said he was going to stay in 2 more years to get his 20 in..He was out of the service for a few years and rejoined before Desert Storm..He was in Vietnam 69-70. He was a very nice man, joked around with us, before he left calling us by name.. As he got in his car and drove away, I saw his BDUs hanging neetly in the back, all I could say was WOW........If there was more like him this country would be O.K.  sneaky

well let's see, i did retire 2 years ago but only because i am making 83% of what i made when i worked, plus no state tax (i live in NY)

since bush came in my fuel oil prices jumped from 1.00 a gallon to 1.26 agllon

gas has gone up almost 2.00 a gallon

i don;t shop much but i do know milk and few others items have increased dramactically

and even chrissy went from free to paid site

so this means the economy is better

oh and i don;t hate bush, i still don;t like how he got in...but that don;t matter.

but i do feel sorry for ms C. Rice. it most be tough when you are a minority and a women and i think a lot of this going on with her is because of that

seriously, this situation over there is getting much much worse.

almost like vietnam all over again. we are losing more people now then when we first went in, which gives me the clue that they (iraqui's etc)planned this all along. maybe they were better off before..hate to say that but unfortunalely we are worse off then a year ago

and i doubt kerry is the answer here either.

In the last two weeks we lost a local and an alumni KIA. It does hurt like hell, but we will get through this. I think the man some referred to as ’bozo’ is doing a great job. I may not always agree with him, but I feel he is the best for the job.

bush is doing ok, his original intention was excwellent, however i don;t think he knew this was coming either. if he quits now it gives them upper hand, if he stays he will be criticized more and more by his own country (in fact i heard or saw where his approval rating is slowly dropping.

so right now he is stuck between rock and a hard place.

but in the end justice will prevail.

In general, concerning politicians and the government, I really don't trust any of them as I am certain they have their own agendas .. they inform us when 1) it suits their purposes and 2) when there's no other way out.

So, with that pessimistic view of the government, I tend to rate our leaders based on morality, ethics, and common sense.  I'm also not completely satisfied with our current president, but probably for reasons other than mentioned here.   Anyway, I too think he made his decisions with the best information available.  We are becoming stuck in a quagmire in Iraq, but it's because of political concerns (in many ways it is much like Vietnam).  Our political leaders have hamstrung our military, and simply have imposed too many "rules" ... what we can and can't bomb (sound familiar?), etc.

Our forces have never had good luck, when "policing" or nation-building, UNLESS they inflicted massive damage FIRST, thereby causing the enemy to surrender.  I believe that our president thought he was making the right decision at the time, and that's what's important.  He believed that it was vital to strike back, to rid the world of Sadam, and begin an offensive push against terrorism.  Again, that's how I keep score .. he did what he thought was right.  Not too hard for a moral man to figure out.

And, finally, I don't believe you can "support" the troops, but not the troop's leader (the sitting president).  That's a cop out.  The opposition (whether it's from either side, at different times in history) simply can't talk negatively about an action being undertaken by our military, and hope to remain in office; so they "support" the troops but talk crap about the administration.  There was a lot of that going around in Vietnam too ... but when the "troops" came home and stepped off the plane, they had curses, blood, feces, and insults hurled at them .. support my ass.  You either support your country, or you don't.  You don't have to agree with everything it does, but you damn sure don't talk negatively about it to "outsiders" .. or in a forum which our young troops and children will hear.  My 2 cents.

also bush is top dog so all stuff points to him. it is kinda like any business the top dog is only as good as his leaders in each area. even though bush picked these people some may have their own agenda and do what they can to satisfy themselves.

on a funny note here i did see kerry going to mass yesterday on tv and his wife looks kinda cute. i always hated hillary but had a fetish towards tipper gore and her spike heels being 1st lady. laura bush is so snobish looking so maybe it is time for change (ha ha)

Re:REMEMBER OUR TROOPS

Date Posted:04/14/2004 3:41 AMCopy HTML

Speaking from a midly conservative position (a little to the right), I am not pleased with Pres. Bush on some of the things he has done. But what I can't stand the most is how the President (any president) gets blamed for the things that he does.
1) Gas Prices: DennisTheMenace, do you really think GW had anything to do with gas prices??? Hmmmm- global crude oil prices are up, Nigerian oil is being curtailed because of the local political situation, Venezuelan oil factory workers are on strike, OPEC has cut back on quotas, gas naturally goes up in the travel season, ruptered pipe lines... So, exactly how is that Bush's fault? If you're going to blame him, then you tell me how he did it, and why.
2) Jobs: Do we really think that crashing airliners into the WTC and the Pentagon wouldn't send this country into a national economic panic? Besides which, thanks to Pres. Bush's tax cuts, the economy is rebounding by leaps and bounds- a recovery that was last felt when Reagan cut taxes back in the 80's. In the month of March alone, 250K jobs were created, and most financial analysts agree: - The trend will continue - Companies that *don't* hire will lose out because they won't be able to match production. I got more back in taxes this year than I ever did when Clinton was running things. Bush came in to Clinton's recession (check the facts, I did), but as I see it- we welll on our way up. GDP is up, production is up, home ownership is up, interest rates are low, inflation remains level, jobs are being created- folks it hasn't or won't happen overnight- but it will happen (unless taxes are raised).
3) Terrorism: Have we had another attack yet?? No- terrorists are being fought on foreign soil- not homeland soil. Yes, soldiers are dying- I praise them and their families for making the ultimate sacrifice. War is hell and soldiers die. Freedom isn't *free*. I'm waiting for my orders to go, but they haven't come yet. President Bush outlined a plan to eliminate Al Queda his first 120 days in office, something Clinton was too passive to do, and thanks to their efforts- 60% or better of Al Queda has been destroyed. You better believe if Sudan offers us OBL like they did Clinton and Albright FOUR times, GW would definately take them up on it. Many top-ranking leaders have been captured or killed. The Taliban, who harbours and fosters terrorist activites have been dismantled. Sadaam Hussein, who funds terrorist groups like Hamaas is no longer in power. Ghadafi has suspended Libya's (terrorist funding state) nuclear weapons program- why? because he knows Bush won't stand for it. Yes, right now Iraq is a quagmire. I have a lot of friends over there who go out their every day scared to death. But they tell me they are proud to do it because they trust in our leader- and it feels like a stab in the heart when idiots like Ted Kennedy and Kerry who get up their and blast away at the president- they say it's like he's blasting away at them too.

Now, to be fair, I don't approve of sections of the Patriot Act (very invasive, undermines the Constitution). I don't like the President's border policy (or, lack thereof). I don't like the fact that he gave 15bil for AIDS research (not that it wasn't good, but we can't afford it and the disease is by and large preventable). I'm not a fan for governmental legislation of marriage. I don't like the off-shore outsourcing. I don't like the "Guest Worker Program", which seems to me rewarding illegal immigrants who broke the law.

But, please don't be fooled by John Kerry. From what I've seen and researched (and I've done a lot of research), the man will take this country ****DOWN****.

- He was named the most liberal senator in Congress, by Liberals.
- He voted 317+ times to raise taxes.
- He already said he will raise taxes his first 100 days in office- that will send stocks to the ground as well as any economic growth we've achieved in the last year. Ask Alan Greenspan.
- He fought bravely in Vietnam, but came back- protested the war (that's ok), but stabbed his fellow soldiers in the back, calling them "murderers and rapists". He consorted with Jane Fonda, and lied about his affiliation with the Veterans against the War.
- He voted for the use of force in Iraq, then refused to give the soldiers the 87billion needed to sustain their efforts. In fact, he said "I voted for the 87 billion before I voted against it." What the hell does that mean????
- He voted for the Patriot Act, but now he is against it. In fact, he didn't even read the bill before he voted for it.
- He voted for the "No Child Left Behind" act, but now he is against it.
- He voted against Bush's tax cuts.
- He failed to denounce MoveOn.Org's analogy of President Bush to Hitler.
- He voted to cut CIA and FBI resources by millions and millions of dollars.
- He voted against funding most of the major weapon systems used by the military today
- He testified before a Senate Arms committee (along with Dashcle, Hillary, Feinstein, and Kennedy) that Hussein was "a grave threat to the United States", that he "possessed WMD's", and that he "should be removed from power". Yet, he is the biggest critic of the War and blasted Bush for not bowing at the U.N. alter
- He blasts Bush for promoting outsourcing- yet Heinz Ketchup (where he and his wife own 4 million in shares), has over 75% of its factories and workers located where? Overseas!

If my hands weren't tired, I'd have about 25 more points to make. My point is Kerry is S-C-A-R-R-Y. He flip flops on the issues, he's weak on defense, and his economic policies as well as his liberal agenda would run the country into the ground. I'm proud to serve in the military, but I would consider getting out before his name was on my retirement certificate.

Pres. Bush isn't perfect, no one is. But this year, when I vote, I am going to ask myself one simple question:

"Who would Osama Bin Laden vote for?" - then I'm going to vote for the other guy.
