I just gave it a try, some technical errors regarding the car but I think it came out quite well:

On a frosty Monday morning, the city still wore a thin veil of mist that curled around streetlights and clung to the windows of the downtown office tower. Inside, the hum of computers and the soft tap‑tap of keyboards filled the open‑plan space, punctuated occasionally by the rustle of papers. At a desk near the center, Maya adjusted her glasses, aligned a stack of invoices, and slipped a sleek, navy‑blue blazer over a bright micro skirt that seemed daringly out of place in the chill. Her needle‑high black heels clicked sharply against the polished floor as she moved, a rhythm that matched the quick, precise way she typed.

Maya was the office’s go‑to tech wizard—she could troubleshoot a network outage faster than most could finish a coffee break. Yet, despite her command of servers and spreadsheets, there was one ritual that always set her heart racing each week: starting her cherished 1973 Citroën Ami 6 Break.

The Ami 6 was a scarlet relic, its rounded nose and slightly sloped roof recalling a bygone era of automotive flair. Its hydraulic suspension gave it a buoyant glide, and its distinctive choke lever—an old‑school device that enriched the fuel mixture for cold starts—was both a blessing and a curse. The car had been sitting idle for more than a week, tucked under a thin sheet of frost, and the cold morning promised a battle.

Maya grabbed her coffee, tucked the steaming mug into the cup holder, and slipped into the driver’s seat. The interior smelled faintly of aged leather and a hint of gasoline, a comforting reminder of countless road trips. She turned the key. The engine coughed once, sputtered, and fell silent.

She frowned, recalling the advice her grandfather had given her years ago: “Treat the choke like a temperamental cat—coax it gently, don’t yank it.” Determined, she pulled the choke lever all the way down, hoping to flood the engine with a richer mixture. She turned the key again. The engine gurgled, choked, and died almost immediately.

Undeterred, Maya released the choke, then pulled it down halfway, then all the way again, each time turning the key with hopeful anticipation. The engine responded with a brief, strained gasp before cutting out. She repeated the sequence, adjusting the choke each time, trying to find the sweet spot that would coax the dormant engine awake. Ten attempts later, the dashboard lights flickered like tiny fireflies, and the cold air in the cabin seemed to grow thicker with each failure.

She glanced at the clock—9 a.m. loomed, and she still needed to pick up her coworker, Lina, from the nearby train station. The Ami 6’s stubbornness felt like a personal affront, a puzzle that tested her patience as much as her technical know‑how.

Finally, after the tenth futile turn, Maya decided to change tactics. She eased the choke back to a middle position, allowing a modest amount of air into the mix, and gave the engine a steady, patient twist. This time, the engine rumbled to life with a low, resonant growl, as if relieved to finally be heard. The radiator hissed, and a faint plume of white steam rose from the exhaust—a sign that the engine was warming up.

Maya exhaled, a mixture of relief and triumph bubbling up. She let the engine idle, listening to the rhythmic thrum that reminded her of a heartbeat. The cold air in the cabin began to soften, and the faint scent of gasoline mingled with the lingering aroma of her coffee.

She drove out of the lot, the Ami 6’s hydraulic suspension absorbing the bumps of the early‑morning streets. As she navigated the city’s winding avenues, the car’s vintage charm turned heads—people paused to admire the scarlet hue, the quirky shape, and the confident woman behind the wheel, heels clicking against the pedals with a determined rhythm.

At the train station, Lina waited, bundled in a wool coat, eyes widening at the sight of the classic car pulling up. “Wow, Maya! That thing looks amazing,” she said, stepping onto the platform.

Maya smiled, feeling the earlier frustration melt away. “It took a bit of coaxing,” she replied, gesturing to the choke lever still perched in its half‑open position. “But she’s alive and kicking now.”

Together, they climbed into the Ami 6, the seats creaking softly as they settled in. The engine purred, the heater began to warm the cabin, and the city’s chill seemed a distant memory. Maya’s micro skirt swayed with the gentle sway of the car, and her heels rested comfortably on the pedals—a perfect blend of modern confidence and nostalgic elegance.

As they drove toward the office, the sunrise painted the skyline in hues of gold and amber, reflecting off the car’s glossy paint. Maya thought about the lesson hidden in the morning’s struggle: even the most seasoned tech whizzes need a little patience, a touch of intuition, and a willingness to listen to the old machines that still have stories to tell.

And so, with the Ami 6 humming steadily beneath them, Maya and Lina headed into the day—ready to tackle emails, spreadsheets, and whatever else the office threw their way—knowing that, like the car’s stubborn engine, perseverance could turn a cold, frustrating start into a smooth, triumphant ride.

Re:Citroen Ami 6 IA

Thank you for this topic very arousing ! As old French man, I have a lot of memories about AMI 6 in the 60’s and 70’s; this old car is high in my heart ! This car was very arousing : an (ugly) human face as front, a shaking driving, a slow cranking sound like Citroen 2CV, a tough choke managing, an exciting shaking gear shift, a long pedal floor mounted (for the first models), a cold blooded car, in addition hard to start at very hot and easy to flood at cold …… The Ami 6 Break was very efficient as wagon for families or for lonely mother ! I have some memories with friend’s Mum in this car and an amazing memory about a costudent (a nice braun affirmed girl) with an old AMI 6 at university in first 80’s : nice bare foot in flip flop on the long pedal, tough cranking with shaking gear shift, driving at cold with sputtering …. Unfortunately, the car died during the cold winter … I am very sorry, but I think they were some error in the text: - In 1973, Ami 6 was not produced any more - The starting was not with a key, but with a lever, twin of choke lever - It had no hydraulic suspension Perhaps they is some confusion with the following Ami 8 or the Citroen GS (hydraulic suspension), produced in this period and very interesting too ! But these details are not a problem, your text is very interesting Thanks again !

Dear Dampniat,

You are right there are some details which are incorrect (AI makes some and I hope it will continue to do so!)

I think the Citroën Ami 6 is a very feminine car and a great car for us as car cranking and pedal pumping fans. The starting sound of the small engine is amazing; loud, hesitating and almost like crying as does the lady who would like to drive away with it but she can’t start it.

Many people think it is an ugly car but I think it is a brilliant design and I like the fact that the front seats  are very close together; the lady driver behind the steering wheel and the admiring passenger (almost) touch their shoulders. The starter and the choke levers are nicely positioned on the car’s dashboard and offer a great view of the lady’s hand adjusting the choke and pulling the starter multiple times.

The car’s seats are slightly lower on the side near the back of the seat, when a lady wears a short skirt or dress these tend to ride up showing her garter belts. Also this designs, offers a great view of the dancing movement of her legs with high heels combining sensuality and determination during the long struggle to start the stubborn cold or hot engine.

I had a video made by Pedaltube of two young ladies elegantly dressed who skipped school for a day; you could admire them seeing them driving around in an Ami 6 Break on a beautiful day. In the way to their picnic one of the ladies stalled the car on a small slope and she had great difficulty to start it back up.

After their countryside picnic they had huge starting issues. It was a long video and you could feel the stress of these young naughty ladies!Unfortunately my USB containing this video doesn’t work anymore!

Please do not hesitate to share some personal memories about struggling old two cylinder cars more in detail!

Kind regards,

Stalling

Great choice for a car to get written up about, the quite interesting Citroen Ami 6. Nice, indeed! (It would not be too difficult to take my writing of the Fiat 500 to search and replace for writing an Ami 6 tale...)

Dear Stalling

Thank you for your answer; I apologize  if I were a bit rude in my details corrections !

Yes I know the PedalTube clip with Ami 6 : very arousing, even a bit repetitive. The car and her color is exactly the same than with my costudent in beginning of 80’s: what a memory !

Are you French ?  Have you personally known any real Ami 6 ?

Here in end of 60’s and 70’s, this car was often driven by bourgeoise women (when their husband drove the DS); and it was exciting to see female well clothed in this specific car and with their high heels on the long floor mounted pedal !

The gear lever between starter and choke was interested too …. when it was shaking between 2 buttons ……

Two of my teachers, our neighbouring and one friend’s Mum had some Ami 6, wagon or sedan.

With one teacher, it was the first time I saw a badly flooded engine: she was unable to launch her car again, between sputtering and stalling (probably to much choke); I was upset all the night.  Indeed, my Mum had difficulties to start her Fiat 500 in winter, but this little bich was easy to restart after flooded, only the first cranking of the day was an issue. And with this teacher, it was a real suspens movie

Your are right when you told its choke had to be managed as a temperamental cat; as in some other Citroen (2 CV, Dyane, GS), it was hard to reach the good mixture.

This old time misses me and now I regret to have not enough glanced our neighbours or relative with their cars in cold days (like my neighbouring in Ami 6 wagon).

Greetings

Dampniat

Dear Dampniat,

No problem!

Exciting youth you must have had!

I am Dutch living in a French speaking area. I grew up in The Netherlands in the 70/80s where the Citroen Ami model was seen very little. But that doesn’t mean I never saw cranking scenes! I saw quite some to list some cars (all with carburettors):

Peugeot 304

Renault 5

Fiat 500

Citroen 2CV several ones

Simca 1000

VW Bug

Chevy Van

Citroen XM GPL

Volvo 240 station wagon GPL

Skoda 105

Austin Mini 850

Citroen Visa

Toyota Tercel

Kind regards,

Stalling
